Myrkulverse D&D Campaign Log - Iron Kingdoms

Session 32, Octesh 8th- 30,814 Gold Pieces

We wander around town for 3 days checking various things out. Rayven see there’s a few shows coming up. We talk to Dominique and find out she’s handy with War jacks, but certainly is not a War Caster. Nerion gives Glady all the info on our church, then does a work out session and a 3 day glutton party with Scwee, they both look a little fat. We find a store in the O.C with magical weapons and armor, I make a list of their good pieces.

We spoke to the guard who researched the murder at our manor, he found nothing but allowed us to search the archive, where we discover Nerion has 0 office skills, so he bribes the office lady. She find one report of a loud scream about that time marked as low priority and 2 muggings the same year. There’s also a report on blackmail concerning our soup kitchen a few years later. We meet the neighbor Dreyfus, to the left and Nerion chats him up and we’re invited in. He gets dressed and comes back in full Brigade Rifleman regalia. Rayven sees it’s he’s a Gun Mage, he’s been here 5 years and bought the house from the city, from the drunken gobber we know. He’s in favor of the soup kitchen, we may hire him as a trainer. Our other neighbor Morden makes it clear he’s only been here 10 year an knows nothing and waves us off.

We head back home and ask Alfred of any strangers coming by. He says a Gentleman name Clavis, but we were not home so he sent him on. He also tells us he looked unhoused with holey boots. We decide to talk to Dana and check her body and coffin out.

We bring Dana to our fireplace along with the rest of the household and ask her to explain what happened in the end, she reluctantly does. We find out she was murdered in her bedroom, she heard her Mother and butler Bob scream before the bad man comes into her room, pulls her from under the bed and stabs her in the heart. She then draws us a very detailed picture of the murderer. She never once mentions her Dad and says she has no other memories of that night. When Nerion Ike and Rayven check out the coffin and body they notice the coffin is spelled and has runes inscribed on it, her body is not and she shows evidence of a stabbing straight into her heart. Dominique advises us to tell Dana she’s dead, we tell her we may soon after a few more things are checked out.

We lastly head to the Iron Gut where Rayven and Ike collect the passes for the OC, our S class badges and 200 platinum. Nerion sees Xila and a guy we find out is Paeter sitting at a table alone. Talking to Xila he finds out she is laser focused on finding her crew, she drops the info that Paeter is part of the Mist People. As Nerion and her heads back to Paeter, Xila informs him that she told us where he’s from, Paeter not liking that makes his way out where Ike follows and asks politely if we can meet, he agrees to downstairs. Nerion interrogates the guy like nobody’s business and won’t let up, demanding the guy’s name and rank. Ike calms the situation down saying we’ll gain trust as we do more sensitive missions, Paeter says he may have something in 2 weeks. We return to the house and find a summons for the Soul Wardens to the Kings Estate in 2 days.

Finis,

Below are my notes which go into more detail, but I didn’t want Gannon to go through a 15 minute intro.

It’s been 3 days. we have 28,814G. Nerion buffs & trains up Scwee who gains 30% body mass. Upcoming shows are
There’s three events left coming up in Octesh.

Octesh 22 - The “Aleholics annual showdown AR 422” - tagline : 30+ brews registered for this year!
We tour the outer cloister and find

We find a store called The Booze Brothers Wears and Wearable in the OC.
We look over their stock and see….
1. Dawngaurd Plate inscribe with Mechanica Halo of Fire 18 AC 60 Lbs., 4K, small arcane condenser
2. Bonded Stomrthrower
3. Balefire carbine, 2d8 radiant, alchemical capacitor, level 3 rune plate 1k
4. Silenced Buckler Cannon
5. Bonded carbine

Guard failed to turn up any info on the Val Effron Manor (our manor), we looked into the archives ourselves and failed. We bribed a clerk to look for us. She found a complaint about the soup kitchen on blackmail, those owners deeded the place to their black mailers. Then died, the state found proof of the blackmails and kept the building for the state. This was 22 years ago. 2 Assaults and a scream happened the same year, the blackmail was a few years after. Parents found with signs of decay.

Roofer uses his wand on coffin and senses adjuration magic on her.

Clavis (looking poor) came by the house once, but Alfred sent him on his way.

We meet the neighbor Dreyfus, to the left and Nerion chats him up and we’re invited in. He gets dressed and comes back in full Brigade Rifleman regalia. Rayven sees it’s he’s a Gun Mage, been here 5 years, bought from the city, from the drunken gobber we know. He’s in favor of the soup kitchen, we may hire him as a trainer

Off to the next neighbor, Dwarf male Morden, wants nothing to do with us, only been their 10 years.

Ike in his dark vision notices the coffin slightly glows. Dana wants to know why Ike is down there, Ike comes up with her and Nerion and I speak to here

She tells the story. She was in her room drawing when she heard shouting, which is not unusual in this household, then she heard her mom’s scream, being scared she hid under her bed. She tell us the butler was Bob at the time. Bob was outside her door when he screamed also. Someone smelling like copper pennies pulled her out of the bed and hurt her, showing us a ghost knife, she agrees to draw a picture of him, a Khadoran male with a weird haircut, a scar next one eye, one ear missing a chunk of flesh. Curiously she never mentions her Dad and says she has no other memories.

I see inscriptions on the rim of the coffin, Nerion confirms she died by a knife right into the heart.

Dominique advises us to tell Dana she’s dead, we will so

We head to Deeter’s after Leo tells us we need to speak soon. We talk Deeter into doing the show, Ike and Nerion will watch his shop. Shotgun will be ready before the show. We head to Iron Gut, Xila is there with Paeter, Nerion heads off to speak to her as Rayven heads to Misty. Jack is tending bar. Nerion shakes his hand and can tell what we see
is smaller than the form he is shaking with. Xila informs us he is a Higher Member of the Shadow Mists, she believes him. She won’t join us until she finds out what happens with her crew. Her crew went to some ruin excavations a week’s east. As we go back to Paeter he leaves when Xyla tells Paeter she told us that he’s with the mist people. Ike convinces him to talk and we meet him downstairs, Nerion does everything in the world including driving his brother’s insane trying to get Paeter’s real name and titles. Paeter is very clear he’s for the city and mercenary guild, and right now he thinks we’re on the same page but he also thinks that will change in our futures, Nerion won’t give up. Ike tries to calm Nerion down by suggesting we can try to gain more trust by completing more sensitive missions, Pater agrees to the possibility and says that he may have a mission for us but needs 2 weeks to gather more information. We return to the house and find a summons for the Soul Wardens to the Kings Estate in 2 days.

We receive 5 permanent badges of S Rank 5 outer cloister permanent passes. and 200 Platinum (2000G).We’re show the upstairs room.

Session 33, Octesh 9th- 30,814 Gold Pieces

We begin in the Iron Gut. Rayven stays at the bar while Nerion goes and talks to Xila. She looks drained and her eyes are sunken, clearly drunk. Nerion asks if Paeter had a lead, she said no, but mentioned that no corpses have been found that match a description of my party. Nerion invites Xila over for food. She declines. Asks what our intentions are for the clan. We tell her about visions of Myrkul for this world. We go to meet Leo, 6 people have disappeared. Rayven visited a palm reader? Nerion asks and seems they were murdered by stitch. Nerion full sends a wall and cracks it. Later that week he received an invoice for damages in the amount of 57 gold. Nyx is there and we offer to send him to the CCC to learn how to be a Warcaster, and after he gets uppidity, Rayven kicks the shit out of him. We are shown in through a wall platform 9 3/4 style. We are seated and order a round of ale. A guy shows up in an oni mask. He thanks us for the work for his corporation. He introduced himself as Glaive. He says Thaddeus works for him and is one of his four lieutenants. He is the leader of the Shadowmists. Rayven asks if he has any plans for the soul wardens. He says just to make money. Caspia (capital) and Signar (country) need to prosper. He recognizes our upcommence. We ask about Dana, and is preserved in the afterlife by her coffin. She, her husband, daughter, and butler, are all killed in his house. Her dad managed to get her into the coffin before he died.

Octesh 10th- 30,814 Gold Pieces

Kings Estate day! Rayven meets with Dana and Dominque to tell Dana whats going on. King Julius is loved by the people. As a gift he would like the head of an enemy. We are trying to figure out who is the Lord of the Jade Temple.

Session 33.5, Octesh 9th- 30,814 Gold Pieces

NOTE - We want Dreyfus, our neighbor, to be our firearm instructor
NOTE - Due to shenanigans, we are rewinding time and beginning again with our conversation with Glaive.
NOTE - Urdro School of Magic is now officially unofficially renamed to CCC (Caspia Community College)
NOTE- King Julius does NOT like gore

We are pulled into a secret room by an anonymous gentleman Cignarian. There we are met with a man in an oni mask. He introduces himself as glaive and pulls out a report that we requested on Dana. This report speaks to how Dana is preserved and how she remains tethered to this world. Edward had discovered a cabal within Caspia and infiltrated into the group and once he was well placed inside of the cabal, he began to leak information to the authorities. He was discovered and the cabal killed his family and then turned upon him. He was able to fight them off but was mortally wounded. With his dying breath, he placed his daughter in a sarcophagus he created that then tethered her soul to this world, which he thought was supposed to heal her back to full health.

Whosdad asks what went wrong with the ritual. Glaive did not have an answer or explanation on what went wrong with the sarcophagus. Best guess is either he didn’t get the body into the sarcophagus in time, or he had an error in creating the item.

Glaive then asked about our construction project, and if it would be a part of the Cignarian Kingdom. We said yes.

Thaddius (redone) gives us information about what to do when we meet the King. He says we will have to be screened, and weapons are not allowed in the palace. Summons are seen as a good thing, if we were in trouble we would have been arrested. King Julius is beloved of the people as he fought with them, and despite his young age, he is considered well wise beyond his years. There will likely be a feast in your honor and a boon given to you. Above all he respects honesty. Inquisitor Dorian, beware him. Inquisitors are the intelligence arm of the kingdom and are tied closely to the throne. Evidence suggests though that there is another aspect of them that is not known to the public with how they gather intelligence. Morrown is the main religion in Cignar, but there is no central religion in the country so there is a good chance of spreading religion.

Rayven brought up having Nerion potentially converting the king to our side.

Nerion asks if Paeter gained his information from the inquisition and that’s what lead to the summons. Glaives answers not likely as the inquisitors rarely deal with matters of the dregs.

From there we go to the CCC and enroll Nyx (Gobber) as a warcaster. Rayven lets them know they have
carte blanche to discipline as they see fit, however harsh. The college says that we are responsible for his discipline. We pay the 500 gold tuition cost and left back to the mansion.

Octesh 10th 30,314 Gold Pieces remain

Before heading off to the king we decided to sit down and talk with Dana about what we found out about her father and family. Nerion goes full Mormon father talking about how Jesus loves them to Dana but it’s us and Myrkul instead of Jesus. Orgun and Ray look uncomfortable. Dana seems unsettled but is handling the news fairly well. We all give Dana a hug and set off for the King. We have unlocked “The Ghost Child” (See IK chat for stat block)

As we head to the king we pass by the Gun Mage Academy, and we can see a class in session with guns and runes and fancy shit. We continue on until a small keep comes into view atop a hill surrounded by walls with heavy security clad in blue and gold armour. We approach the keep and check-in, surrendering our weapons as we do so. Rayven attempts to sign the guard’s chest plate in blood and gets restrained. As soon as we round the corner Ray slips the restraints and pockets the rope. We are announced by some hidden person that the inquisition of our party is about to begin and we pass through a zone of truth spell.

Whosdad does not like this since we were told to beware Dorain.

We approach the throne room. We see an older man with dark hair and gold eyes with red and gold plate armour of the inquisitors seated to right of the throne. As we are let in, another group of 2 dwarves are let in and follow up behind us. Radur and Digna the dwarves, of the Earthen Tempest. A man with 2 golden pistols on his hip and a golden breastplate with leathers walks and in and he sits on the throne. Gannon has us roll an insight check, and everyone except Rayven feels the presence many other people besides what we can see. The King greets us and says he wants to have a small feast in our honor and thanks us for our assistance. in addition to the feast he wishes to honor our group with a boon, major and minor, and the same for the Earthen Tempest. They ask for land and titles to retire on from soldiering, as well as assistance in building.

We ask the king for:
Minor Boon - Spend a day with our priest Nerion and have him learn about Myrkul.
Major Boon - Officially grant us the lands around the ruins of the church, and the lands around the Badger Clan, and titles for us. Nerion would take the title of Baron, a minor noble, and the rest the house holds minor noble status.

We end a mere hour or so right before the feast is set to begin…

Session 34, Octesh 10th 26,913 Gold

After being dismissed from the initial meeting with King Julius, Lord Rayven introduces himself to the brothers of the Earth and Tempest, Redur and Digna, and they decide to find a tavern until the feast. Lords Ike and Nerion stop by Wayne’s Armaments and purchase a Morningstar of Stall, and Leather Armor of Shadow, which Ike stores in his bag of holding. At the tavern, Rayven asks the brothers about their fight with Slice. They describe how his infernal right arm transformed into a blade that sliced up their companions. After catching up with Rayven, Nerion askes the brothers how they found the infernals. They respond that they were in the right place to see the tunnels collapse, apparently when we first encountered the cultists inside Caspia, and followed the collapsed tunnel to the Lair. They mentioned that they found some treasures on Slice that they were planning on burying with their fallen companions as a rememberance. Ike asks what these treasures would be worth to them, they reply that if we bring them the heads of the other two lieutenants that they would be willing to give the treasures to us rather than burying them.

The group then makes way to the feast (after dissuading Rayven from trying to pickpocket a guard). As we enter the feast, we see several nobles whom Nerion points out. The Darkfrost Family, Blake Helstrom, and Olson Nivistri, as well as Magoro and Vandere are in attendance. Whosdad casually strikes up conversation with Inquisitor Dorian about the state of the Inquisition and is immediately met with suspicion as he “smells of evil.” He is able to expertly deflect Dorian’s questions, but the suspicion remains. Dorian does say that he is understandably upset that the Infernalists were able to make it so far under his watch. Nerion greets Griffin and introduces himself to the rest of the Darkfrost family, he asks Helstrom who is sitting with them, if there have been any other infernal incidents reported by other kingdoms, Cryx specifically as he has contacts there. He reports no other incidents of Infernals, but suspects that if there were, the other kingdoms would likely be keeping news of it close to the chest. He notes that the only recent event of interest within Cryx is the emergence of a new religion that the Litches appear to be allowing rather than immediately quelling as they normally would. Ike asks for further detail on this religion and Helstrom reveals that it is the enemies of Myrkul, the followers of Kelemvor.

Shortly after this, King Julius arrives with his family and the feast begins. The King asks the closest of the two parties, Whosdad and Radur, to recount their experiences with the cultists, which they do. Rayven then reiterates our desire to assist in dispatching the other two Infernal lieutenants, and asks to be informed of any other information obtained on their whereabouts. The request, followed by Nerion’s signature “Come ooooon” from over his shoulder seem to bypass any of Julius’ reservations and he agrees and gives Rayven a sending stone by which to receive the information as soon as it is obtained.

After the second course is served, the entertainment, the Sword Dancers, arrive and begin to dance seductively around the table. The group becomes suspicious and takes up positions to defend Julius and his family should anything happen. As predicted, near the end of the performance the dancers strike. The second dancer grabs Inquisitor Dorian and he disappears in a red and black flash. At the same time, the lead dancer tries to stab King Julius but Nerion is in place to interpose his shield. The other 3 dancers collapse and start writhing on the floor.

Ike attacks the lead dancer, disrupting the illusion and she transforms into Strangle, at the same time, the other standing dancer transforms into Pedal. Julius immediately takes action to get his family out of danger while the guards and the others present attack the intruders. The Soul Wardens and Earth and Tempest try to find or improvise weapons, having left all but the morningstar and kris in Ike’s bag of holding at the gates. Despite attempts to disrupt Pedal’s concentration, she finishes her spell and the convulsing dancers transform into lamenters.

As the team awakens from a night they will never forget, they proceed to the same dining room to begin the day. Their conversations are cut short by a short message from their ring… “Squire Roofer is probably now dead.”

The hero took his leave to attend to the matter while the rest of the party decided to break their fast.

Arriving at the scene, the hero quickly ascertained that Roofer is alive but not present… however, there was another presence … LORD SINSEAR HAD ARRIVED!!! After sharing greetings, we are informed that Roofer had absconded with Dana. Thinking quickly, the hero reached out to the guards from the kitchen who gave us the general direction he left.

At the king’s table, he gave us a voucher for a mechanika piece of gear for five individuals.

Once the whole group arrived, we decided the situation warranted a direct conversation with Myrkul. We learn from our lord that Roofer was now a traitor and that Myrkul’s will is for us to investigate the Cryxian foothold. We decide to move forward with that.

On the way out of the city we asked the guards about Roofer leaving. They describe a man leaving with a coffin. He may be in disguise but the coffin matched Dana’s. He was headed toward the suspected Cryxian outpost.

We travel for two days uneventfully, at the end of the second day, we see a ball of fire fall in our path and leave a crater. we saw some bits of it fly off and land in different locations on the way down. It turns out to be a naked man. After reviving him we find that he knows his name is Kilain and the name Myrkul sounds familiar but he knows literally nothing else. Ike looks into his memory and gatches jumbled glimpses of him falling from a spelljammer and losing his gear allong the way. Kilain starts to feel drawn in specific directions and thinks he may find his lost memories if he follows the pull, we suspect toward the equipment he lost. We decide to rest for the night (as it is dark at this point) and look for the gear in the morning.

A note was left with Misti to notify Xila that Roofer must come by the badger clan to return materials or die… plan accordingly and capture him.

Session 36 Octesh ??, Gold ???

We wake in the morning with Rayven still insisting we should kill the naked dude. All others have touchy feely emotions for the douchebag. We then follow him around to find his stuff. The first case is DNA locked to him, Rayven tells Nerion to hold the box and let him open it and we’ll see what’s in it. Nerion instead gives him the box, he opens it and dons his armor. The second box is small and also DNA locked, I repeated my request and instead we gave it to him and he’s now armed with a black pistol called DECAY. This tickles Nerion so much, he’s now convinced he’s a follower of Myrkul. Rayven repeats that we should kill him and let Rayven wear his armor and pistol. Instead we fairly rush to the 3rd box and let him equip a 2nd gun called LIFE. Kalain the douchebag is now fully armored and armed and would love to help us kill things!

We head to the ruins that the Cryxians have taken over, it shows signs of repair but the back wall has an open section in the walls. Ike walks up the walls and checks the entire base, not missing a single room. While casing the base he sees lots of Kelemvor symbols on the people inside. A few leader type looking folks discuss their displeasure of the Cryxians and wonder if the Myrkulites are even here and if so why worry about them, one of them is named Randy. They then discuss Roofer coming here with the book, his plan of the Monolith and the coffin. Randy keeps forgetting the subject and it needs repeated, Randy it seems is an idiot. They discuss the burning of the coffin tomorrow and one of the guys is not really convinced Roofer is a true Myrkulite, but at least he’s not like that dumb fucker Randy. During the entire search Roofer was not seen in the compound.

Ike points out that further in the woods is a river, leading to an underground tunnel blocked by a grate leading into the compound. Rayven tries to dig under the grate with his knife and only gets 75% done before getting exhausted. Kalain holds the knife and at first attempt almost cuts his own hand off, before he can try again he strokes out and speaks about as well as Randy. Nerion rushed over and saved him with Rayven’s assistance through nipple therapy. Nerion finishes opening the grate, the grate is a good 1/4 mile from the base. After opening the grate we question Kalain again, only to discover he’s a Liar McFuking Liar and most likely also a follower of Kelemvor. We attack!

PS Rayven has an initiative of 23.

Session 37, Octesh 13th (???) 26,913 Gold

Battle ensues. Whosdad and Nerion go down after shenanigans. Ike and BBEG fight for bag of holding, then BOOM, teleported to SOMEWHERE?!!?! Ike hits the butterfinger special and grabs back the bag of holding and sprints out the door. “I’M FAST AS FUCK BOIS” is yelled as he hits the loot scoot and boogie, and flips off Roofer on the way out. Ike runs blindly around, while being “stealth lite”. Whosdad makes an arcana check to see if we can figure out where the fuck Ike went. The party, sans Ike, starts down the cave tunnel, whosdad spots cave trolls at the end of the tunnel. “They have a cave troll” thank you Sean Bean, but I see two. Ike is hiding underwater.

We will begin next session with Nerion starting.

Session 38, Octesh 13th, 16,148 Gold

After running through most of the stronghold, Ike dashes over the water, away from the aqueduct where Kilain had him cornered and manages to rejoin the rest of the party. At the same time, a mysterious stranger wearing Cygnaran military colors suddenly drops camouflage and joins the fight. After downing one of the Cryxian gunmen, he introduces himself as Dexer Forscythe, stating that he was spying on the Cryxian outpost and he will assist us if we would like. Once we accept his aid, we see that he fights with a similar style to Kilain, though instead of radiant and necrotic, his guns, Ebony and Ivory, do acid and lightning damage.

The group empties many shots into the trolls who continue to regenerate until Dexer finishes one with the acid damage from Ebony. In the meantime, Kilain catches up and takes several shots at Ike and Nerion without much success. Nerion then uses his misty step to teleport behind the largest enemy group which summons an infernal. He then unleashes the magic of his death wail armor, devastating the group of enemies, as well as a few more that we had not yet seen.

The two clerics then engage, exchanging a flurry of shots. After several exchanges, Ike manages to restrain Kilain and Dexer finishes him off. Whosdad lands a difficult shot on a flaming brazier, knocking it over onto the remaining Troll, lighting him on fire and killing him as well.

Nerion continues to hold off the oncoming forces, which now include warjacks that pop out of the ground and try unsuccessfully to grab him. As the rest of the group continues to clean up the remaining gunfighters, Rayven jumps on the unconscious Kilain and attempts a combat lobotomy, but is unsure of the results. The Hell Divers then succeed in dragging Nerion underground, Ike jumps in after him to assist and catches a glimpse of Roofer down the adjacent hall as he goes under.

Session 39, Octesh 13th, 16,148 Gold—

After being drug under Nerion is assaulted by the Helldivers, however they are unable to land a solid blow on him. Ike Hyran immediately goes and backs Nerion up by jumping into the pit and critically wounding one of the Mechanical Helldivers. The priests of Kelemvor then move within range and set a trap for those leaving the pit. Each hole is covered by a Spirit Guardian of Kelemvor. The Traitor Roofer runs into the offset set of rooms, where Dexer attempted to follow and gets shot at. Seems there are enemies within. Shortly there after the party moves in to assist Dexer but the door closes. Meanwhile Nerion abandons his friend Ike by misty stepping out of the hole, leaving Ike to spring the trap with the remaining two Helldivers. He does this to sate his thirst for Roofer’s blood. He manages to get to the door of the room by the end of his turn, with only taking minor damage from the Guardians. Ike then complains about his friend’s lack of decorum and proceeds to spend his next 6 seconds running through a tunnel and all around the complex yet again. The door to the room is opened once more dy Dexer who walks in guns-blazing and manages to down one of the enemies. Nerion follows thereafter and makes it to Roofer who was waiting next to the door closest to Sinsear with a Kelemvor Assassin adjacent. Nerion is able to get the jump on Roofer and tackles him to the floor. Roofer smiles a knowing smile at Nerion, saying “you’d want me to fight you like this wouldn’t you!?” and uses his free foot to kick open the door and teleports over to Sinsear, whom he apologizes to, before gutting him and moving away. As he moves away he taunts Nerion with “Ha, I bet you won’t waste your time getting up your ‘friends’ will you? Always concerned about yourself” Rayven and Whosdad take good shots at Roofer. A round is spent by Nerion getting Sinsear up. Roofer is able to knock Whosdad unconscious is one turn, with a few deft scythe swipes, but Sinsear back on his feet is able to Hold Person on Roofer. Dexer continues to mop up the enemies within the offset room. Ike finally makes it close. Nerion is able to coup du grace on Roofer. Session ends there.

The hero starts the session with a failed attempt to end Roofer’s life. However, Roofer’s life is ended with a bullet from Rex who then takes his opportunity to leave and also finish Kalain off. He is now “guarding the front”.

The hero delivers a critical blow to Kelemvor’s priest, violently ending his life. The team wrestles back and forth with the remaining priests until the Necro Warjack grabs Rayven and pulls him through the Angels of Kelemvor. Upon attempting to stand he gets a nasty “how do you do”.

The priests are slain and the group quickly tends to their wounds. Avoiding the angels, they travel a different direction and encounter a Cryxian kill squad. With the armored undead lackeys in the front, the group works to negotiate an opportunity. Ike goes over the tanks and Nerion jumps over one. They use tactics and retreat backwards to recreate their line.

An opening is created by pinning an undead tank but this causes the remaining soldiers to rush our own backline and attack the gentle underbelly of shooters.

Session 41, Octesh 13th, 16,218 Gold

The attacking Cryxian Elites and Boneshield Warriors ran past our front line and attacked the gun line in the back. Rayven, a hair’s breadth from death, is temporarily saved from death by Sinsear’s healing skills. The Hero, after smashing 1 Boneshield Tank, holds the second one down for Ike to pummel to bone splinters. The Cryixian Elites seeing their doom forecasted refuse to give up and decide they’ll take 1 of us with them, they choose the most terrifying Knight they see, Rayven, then pile all the damage on him ignoring all else. Rayven, taking the better part of valor, runs and hides and dodges while his brothers whittle them down. By the time the last Cryxian dies Rayven is barely alive (literally 1 hit point). Doing the most intelligent thing we can think of we take a short rest in a closed room in the middle of their Stronghold. Surprisingly, we don’t get the short rest off and instead open the door to find more Cryxian gunmen and they’ve trapped the entire hold! All but Rayven slowly move forward and disarm the traps taking some damage here and there. Rayven is left to take pot shots and hide like a little girl. The session ended here.

Session 42, Octesh 13th, 16,218 Gold

Traps!! Traps everywhere!!

Our last session ended with the party trying to achieve a short rest and being foiled by the untimely intervention of the keep inhabitants. While the party attempted to rest, Sinsear used a ritual of Identify to find out the magic ring contained the spell Dimension Door. However, the ring was tainted by the foul stench of Kelemvor.

After being rudely interrupted from our rest, we began to sweep the corridors for traps using several successful methods (Ike’s keen senses, WhosDad with a Decanter of Endless Water, and Sinsear with some Eldritch blasts).
When Rayvan feels the progress is a little slow, he busts out his uber boom boom stick and starts clearing the path of traps like a champ.

At this point, a sniper named Cestus starts using some sort of ricochet shot to blast our asses. We are not amused. As we try to approach the area the shots came from, we are confronted by a pair of animated bone walls. Initially the bone walls shrug off our attacks and keep us from advancing on the sniper. This lasts until Nerion decides to go John Cena on a bone wall and suplex’s it into a trap. With a little room to work, Ike begins lobbing flash bang grenades into the room the bone walls are guarding.
Nerion eventually chases down Cestus the sniper and gives him manly hugs that cause pain. Ike and Sinsear finish off the bone walls protecting Cestus and rush to join Nerion, right as he delivers a power slam to Cestus. Ike and Nerion both attempt to get grips on the slippery sniper, but he breaks free and shoots Ike. Ike goes down like a five dollar whore. Luckily, Nerion is able to revive Ike with a gentle caress (Lay of Hands) and the fight continues. In a twist of fate, Nerion is then shot by Cestus and falls, but due to his awesomeness, almost immediately springs back up to continue fighting.

Meanwhile, another sniper named Naren, an actual twin of the first sniper, and his entourage have appeared from the opposite direction of our heroes. They trade a few shots with Rayvan and WhosDad before Sinsear conjures up an illusionary wall to conceal the group, while allowing our gunners to fire at the enemy. Naren, however, is able to bypass the illusion by listening reaaaaaaly well. The entourage is baffled for the moment, then starts to move towards the illusionary wall rolling an explosive barrel down the middle of the passageway. Not a wise choice. Rayvan shoots the barrel, killing a thug and wounding two more bone walls. Between Rayvan and WhosDad, the two bone walls are quickly dispatched. This leaves only Naren in the passageway. Sadly, he is able to slink forward and put both WhosDad and Rayvan out of commission.

Cestus continues to get hugs and grapples from Nerion and Ike. Sinsear try to help, but gets shot in the face for his troubles. This makes Sinsear angry. You wouldn’t like Sinsear when he’s angry. Drawing on his fading magic, Sinsear uses his last Hold Person to paralyze Cestus. Nerion and Ike quickly finish Cestus off.

As the session comes to a close, Sinsear prays to Myrkul and is found wanting.
Naren dumps Ray’s body into a pond, just to prove they all float down here…

Session 43, Octesh 13th, 16,218 Gold

Whosdad passes death saves. Rayven is 2-2, Ike loses his first roll, Nerion rolls a save. Sinsear said enough Russian roulette and heals Nerion for 4 hp. Nerion heals Ike with the THIS and he is revived. Dumb-Dumb picks up my fancy Myrkul ring and puts it on, he’s then blasted away and is bloodied. Everyone is alive except Whosdad. Ray snaps off the last shot with Coldsnap. Why is Whosdad being used as sandbag cover…

Nerion realized that he can charge the mound and die because Sinsear can rez him. through him…? Nerion rushes and gets clapped, Ike follows up with the one two clap. Sinsear revives Nerion. Bastard hits a barrel roll and Ike misses his chance to hit. POW POW, Ikes back down. Naren turns his eye to Nerion, but he is sneaky sneaky. Nerion gets close enough for Sinsear to fire off the killing blow. Naren dies in an epic shot.

Whosdad is smart for the first time and has the insight that we’ve killed everyone who would be coming for us. we decided to search then rest. We rest and then climb a ladder. Dexter Forscythe meets us at the top. He sits upon a pile of corpses with Danas Coffin.

We question some people left alive, and ask 3 questions:

What was the goal of the venture?
The goal is to promote strife between the Cryxian empire and the Signaran empires, snuff out myrkul intervention

How did y’all get here? What do you know about them?

Session 43, Octesh 13th, 16,218 Gold

Before Resting, the party decides to search the castle. Ike and Whosdad find a map table with markers on the area around the keep, Blackwater, and Skell. The keep also has 3 troop markers on it. Ike takes the map. There is also a chest with some gold and additional cartography supplies. On a nearby bookshelf, there is a note shoved inside a farming book that reads:

Dear Sir

Our plums have not yet come to ripen in the fall as we were hoping.

Will your shipment of fertilizer be ready for the coming planting season?

The chickens are pecking at the ground but finding no worms.

Our cow’s milk is running dry.

Ike takes both the note and the book.

Nerion destroys the statue of Kelemvore and burns the remaining corpses, mixing the dust and ashes together for later unholy use.

As the party rests, Whosdad and Rayven receive dreams giving them hints to the identities of the souls trapped inside Pride and Prejudice, apparently lovers.

In the morning, Nerion attempts to enter Roofer’s tome but does not succeed in expelling him on the first attempt. Whosdad and Rayven then go hunting to get used to their new weapons. They kill a bear and some kind of energy is expelled from the corpse. the guess that it may have something to do with them both targeting the same creature. Whosdad also kills a bunny and he and Rayven attempt to make its feet into weapon charms. The additional connection pleases the weapons.

After the corpses from the keep are burned and the gear recovered, the total comes to:

20 rifles, 20 studded leather, 10 half plate, 4 shields, 30 shortswords, 10 great axes, 326 gold

In the night, Whosdad and Rayven again receive dreams from the rifles, giving them glimpses of their lives over the years prior to their imprisonment.

The next morning, Nerion dedicates himself to Myrkul, takes a shot of blight wine to bolster himself, and receives an enhancing spell from Sinsear then enters the book to do battle with Roofer.

This time, he is able to obliterate Roofer as the group watches through the pages, barely giving him a chance to fight back. Nerion is now bonded to the tome.

The group recovers Roofer’s gear and the 1500 gold he stole.

They then take Sinsear’s portal home, appearing in the temple along with a Howler which survives for only about 3 seconds. Ike takes the opportunity to extract some vials of infernal juice for Magnus to study.

Rayven is on the verge of climaxing at the thought of obtaining his precious and long awaited shotgun. Deeter delivers the goods… Rayven and the group debate and haggle with Deeter, a bit.`

We ring up the inquisitor and update him on what occurred. He takes the info but is unhappy we used a mass recall spell, pussy.

Party assets - 413gp, some lint, and a few chicken bones Ike is saving for his cats.

Nerion is about to make his pitch to King Julius when a more important event arises.

The Aleholics Showdown!
A number of things happen during the festivities.
First, Rayven enters a drawing for infinite beer but doesn’t win. There is a little pouting.

Soon after, Ike, Rayven, and Whosdad begin a quest to find a Brewer we can hire. They drink and critque many beers and come up with 6 candidates. Based on looks, attitude, and the addition of fruit to beer, 3 are quickly eliminated.
One of the remaining 3, a dwarf named Boris, gets frustrated with the questions and stomps off. Whosdad follows and is able to come to a compromise with him. He declares dwarves are just better at ale making than other races.
So the party is now in business with The Happy Goblet Dwarven Brewery, headed by Boris. Boris will also be bringing 12 members of his family and a few hanger’s on.
Of course, Rayven is disappointed we didn’t choose the hot Iosan female, but beer is beer. He does suggest to her that we have other “opportunities” for a woman of her beauty, but she rejects the idea, stating her rates would be exceedingly high.

As the evening winds down, the final event, a drinking contest (nope no D&D trope here, move along) begins. Rayven and Ike participate for the honor of the Undead Lords.
Somehow in the 1st round Rayven gets snackered (it must have been all the previous drinks). He then proceeds to fall down, regain his feet, and make a spectacle of himself trying to impress the available women.
On to the 2nd round! Ike almost gets busted for not being capable of getting drunk. He attempts an approximation of Rayven on a normal day and avoids being disqualified. Meanwhile, Rayven falls down again.
In the 3rd round Ike gets tested with a slap to the head. Using a combination of Drunken Monkey style and machismo, he suffers the blow and deceives the judges. The other contestants get disqualified for deflecting the slap, proving they were not intoxicated.
Ike wins!! He gets 5 kegs of strong brew and 20% off for a year from The Prancing Pickle Brewery. When Sinsear learns their motto is “Everyone loves sucking on a Pickle” he declines any drink from said establishment citing religious objections.

At last it’s time for Nerion to meet the King.
Nerion contacts the Death’s Wish to have it ferry us to the king’s courtyard. He believes displaying a ship such as this will make a most spectacular impression. He is not wrong.
Being as unique as it is, the Death’s Wish causes quite a stir as it descends, picks up the Knights, and flies them to King Julius’ castle.
For even more effect, it begins to rain everywhere but the vicinity of the ship. During the flight to the castle, Sinsear sets up a telepathic bond with the party.

As we land, the king, his family, and Dorian greet our arrival. We disembark by ramp in a manner most impressive (we showered for this). Nerion shows his physical prowess by hefting a large keg of beer as he descends.
Everyone assembled is struck by the shining beauty and power of the manliest of Paladins.
We are led to the great hall. Before we take our seats Nerion directs Squee to go play with the children, which causes whoops and cries of joy from the royal spawn. Sinsear is mildly concerned about the beast biting off fingers, but is assured that Squee has been fed recently.

We then take seats and Nerion begins to extol the virtues of Myrkul to the king. The king however, is a little leery of throwing in his lot with a god that, until very recently, was unknown among the lands. Especially one that seems to be a death god.
In order for Nerion to understand where the king is coming from, the king does a mind meld of some kind and gives Nerion a vision of the kings past. He was the bastard son of a king and saved his people from ruin.
Nerion continues to praise Myrkul and occasionally receive telepathic advice from the party. Finally the king agrees to ally with Myrkul on the promise of the party dealing with Petal and her Flowers until they are dispatched for good. A caveat agreed upon is we won’t stab him in the back and he won’t stab us in the back.

The king and Nerion do a glowy hand thing and a pact is sealed.

The party begins a leisurely 3 day ride back to the Jade Temple.

413 Party Gold (We broke -stares at Ikes bags of cat food-)

We begin the session seated at the King’s Table.

We call the death wish back down for the King to ride. The king agrees to go for a ride if his royal guard can accompany him onto the ship. Dorian and 6 others accompany him, along with the Queen. Everyone, even Dorian, is very impressed by the fluidity of the vessel as it maneuvers through the air. Ike performs acrobatics around the ship to show the King & Queen it’s perfectly safe to venture to the edge.

As we return down we offer the King and any of his entourage who would like to, the opportunity to pop a Featherfall potion and jump overboard. Ike and Whosdad vault overboard to prove this a safe thing to do. The King is given a spyglass to watch the descent. Ike superhero lands without taking the potion for 69 damage (Nice) and Whosdad pops the potion and floats gently down. The Queen denies the jump but the King looks intrigued. The King, Dorian, Rayven, and 3 of the 6 royal guards drop off the edge.

Dorian gives Ray a high-five for the fun times. Dorian returns the high-five with a 13/20 vigor.

We then split the party and contact the people who will be moving out with us to the temple, letting them know we have unexpectedly acquired a vessel to travel in and inviting them to roll with us.

  • Nerion goes to see if Dana can be moved, and bring Francois, Dominque, his family, and Alfred.
  • Rayven goes to get Deeter.
  • Whosdad grabs Boris.
  • Ike goes for Magnus.

Everyone is ready to go and comes, except for Boriss’ Crew, who he will write to after he sees the space he will be working with and can request the necessary equipment for the space they will be working in.

Octesh 28th (shortly after midnight)

What is normally a 3-day trek takes only 3 hours. We arrive and disembark, the temple’s construction is well underway but not quite finished.

We all go to the basement and meet with the Jade Lord (Who apparently has had an upgrade). He tells us his friends call him Jack. Jack tells us he’s been talking with Myrkul and that he has a lil tasky task for us. Ray rolls an insight check to see if he’s telling us the truth. He’s roughly 20/20 sure that he ain’t lying.

He informs us that tomorrow we will be embarking on a journey that will take us months to complete. He tells us to rest and that we will reconvene in the morning to learn of the task, but tells us that we will be heading off to the Grey Wastes to help gather forces for our forts.

Sinsear asks Jack his favorite color. It is Gold.

“The Jade of tomorrow is not the Jade of today” - Jack the “Jade Lord”, Octesh 28th @ 2 am.

Sinsear attempts to sit on Jack the “Jade Lords” throne and is shocked.

The party rests.

Octesh 28th @ 10 am

As we wake up we see the construction crews working hard on the temple. We set the people we brought with us up with the foremen to figure out what they need and to make it happen.

We return to Jack the “Jade Lord” for our mission. He offers to watch Dana while we’re gone and they seem to get along well.

Jack the “Jade Lord” informs us that he will be opening a portal to Myrkuls Realm, where we will be fighting hordes of enemies that can be recruited to man our strongholds.

He bids us farewell and we step into the portal

We emerge in the Grey Wastes. Rayven and I quickly cook steaks from the pile of meat before heading out. We follow Death Speaker Adaranth.

He summons a helmsman for the boat for us and tells us not to touch the water or stray too far from the boat. 5 blue flames representing our life force are also on board. Do not let them go out.

The boat arises and we set sail, traveling for about an hour before coming upon a river.

The boat contains 4 crossbows, bolts, and barrels of oil.

Octesh 28th - 413 Gold and a few pieces of steak Whosdad was saving from the cathedral

The party feels as though they are in stasis for about an hour for some reason even though only a few seconds actually pass.

The second wave arrives, consisting of Swordsmen, Bruisers, and Mages and the party eagerly dives into the fight. Ike again jumps to the side and begins laying out swordsmen while Rayven, Whosdad, and Sinsear go to work with their ranged attacks. After taking out 4 swordsmen with a single hit, Ike is surrounded and beaten down by multiple bruisers, only remaining conscious due to his incredible luck. Meanwhile the rest of the melee skeletons jump to the boat. The mages manage to land a chain lightning and end Sinsear’s Spirit Guardians.

Ike, abruptly aware of the danger of being on shore, leaps over the skeletons surrounding him and dashes back to the boat in bad shape but is immediately patched up by Sinsear. The rest of the group continues to dispatch all but 3 of the skeletons on the boat. In the process Nerion discovers that the skeletons are immune to necrotic damage and Rayven sets the boatman on fire. The boatman stops-drops-and-rolls, but the boat stops moving while he does, allowing more enemies to catch up. The Bruisers pin Sinsear but fail to knock down Rayven.

Knight Revenants, Undead Knights, and a Death Knight materialize on the riverbanks and begin boarding the boat or firing from the shores. Those firing take a chunk out of Whosdad. Ike attacks one of the revenants and discovers that they are cold enough to do damage when struck. As some of the oncoming wave begin to board the boat, others take aim at the boatman, halting the boat permanently. Two of the bruisers clobber Sincear while he’s down, and the gobber is the first to meet his end in the Grey Wastes.

Another bruiser grabs Nerion and jumps overboard, sinking to the bottom of the river. The Death Knight boards the boat and attempts to frighten Whosdad and Ike. Turning incorporeal and floating above the battle when his attempts fail. Rayven continues to be assaulted by skeletons, and they manage to get him on the ground as well. Two of the newly arrived Undead Knights turn on Whosdad and knock him out with radiant strikes. Ike takes half a volley of icy spears then attempts to stun an undead knight, but retreats under the boat after the knight resists. Rayven, managing to survive on the ground, Blasts at the skeletons around him, then summons his fog bank, enveloping the boat in an obscuring mist. Nerion misty stepps back onto the boat and charges through 6 enemies, throwing 3 of them overboard.

The remaining Knights of Myrkul summon what strength they have left and prepare for a final push against the undead onslaught.
